By repealing Chapter 174 we’re choosing to hold officers accountable for misconduct and to build a safer community for everyone.
Contracts are Complicated!
Chapter 174 in a nutshell:
- Supercedes any local attempts to increase police accountability.
- Gives officers the upper-hand when misconduct disputes are brought to the attention of local governments. (174.004)
- Allows police association contracts to overrule important public accountability provisions. (174.005)
If we don't repeal 174, the San Antonio Police Officers Association (Police Union) can continue to re-hire "bad apple" police officers.
